The List of 179

To participate, we'll be requesting a $10 donation that will be made directly to the Blazeman Foundation (Guidestar.org link listed; registration required).

At some point in the future, we'll set up formal online registration.

Until then, you can e-mail us at blazeman179 (at) aol.com to indicate your desire to participate in this event or let Kim, Bill or myself know and we'll add you to this list.

Our initial plans, dependent upon which track location we secure, are that we'll start either on a Friday evening or a Saturday morning.

1. Kim Hager, The Woodlands, TX
2. Bill Dwyer, Spring, TX
3. Jon Walk, Spring, TX
4. Karen Felicidario, The Woodlands, TX

We look forward to seeing this list grow to 179 as soon as possible. If we're fortunate enough that we happen to surpass 179, we'll develop plans to have a second team of 179 runners!

Our 2008 Mission

This past February 10, with the gracious support of Luke's Locker in The Woodlands, Team Timex professional triathlete and 2004 Olympic Trials marathoner Kim Hager, RRCA-certified coach Bill Dwyer and sportswriter Jon Walk coordinated a very successful The Woodlands Spin For ALS.

In addition to 16 other events that day across North America, The Woodlands Spin For ALS took place in support of the Blazeman Foundation, which was created in honor of Jon Blais, who then was battling the devastating effects of the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) disease.
Nearly 30 cyclists logged parts of 16 and a half continuous hours (the time that it took Blais to finish the 2005 World Championship Ford Ironman Triathlon in Kona - and the only ever to do so with ALS) to raise money for ALS research.

Blais succumbed to ALS on May 27, 2007, but his spirit will never be forgotten.

In February 2008, we'll honor Jon in a special way -- 179 miles on the track (his 2005 Kona race number) in (our goal) less than 24 hours.

We hope that you'll join us that day to celebrate the life of Jon Blais and continue to raise the awareness of ALS.

And as a result, The Woodlands Spin For ALS now becomes "The Woodlands Run For ALS".
